My Diabetes History |

But one day that did not seem to work so well. Finally, the doctors put me on pills when the urine test strips registered black -- it could not record worse. In fact, I was pretty much a zombie at that time. Why any doctor would put an athlete on pills with that kind of glucose level I don't have a clue? Like, they treated me as if I was one of those big beefy guys who ate more for a snack than my entire day's intake of food. If that was not the biggest bogus treatment, then listen to this. They put me on Metformin after they toasted my pancreas with another drug, which happed to be mostly fried by that time. When I had kidney troubles and liver troubles, puking and shitting all over the place, they did not follow the drug company's advice. That is stop taking Metformin. One day when my glucose ran over 700 or more each day, I told the doctor I was not going to live without another type of insulin. Actually, I have no clue how high my blood sugar levels were because my meter shuts off at 670. The doctor gave me long acting insulin, which is totally worthless for someone makes little or no insulin. So I through away that medical scam. So, my doctor gave me the short acting insulin. Then I found it did not always give me great control per his instructions, which mean injecting only before meals. I began obtaining medical journal and reviewing documents done by medical researchers. As I got better, I went back to the gym where I began working out. I quickly found, with short insulin, a 90 minute workout helped a great deal. Now remember, thanks to poor advice, I had gotten into very bad condition. My diet had been far less than a 700 calories per day. Probably more like 300-500 trying to starve myself into submission. My blood pressure and cholesterol rose through the roof. I was mostly dead. I remember lying in bed, the fluids filled my chest and my legs swelled to three times the normal size. My kidneys had all but quit. As I improved my health, the medical journals, the body builders, nutritionists and physiologists all gave me great advice. But the doctors advice followed the lines of diabetes is progressive, everyone is different and the disease is not an exact science. Even worse, the doctor told me I did not try hard enough. For quite some time, my diet consisted of dairy products and peanut butter on whole grain bread. Thanks to one anti-medical establishment person, I was advised to investigate the nutritional aspect of the essential amino acids. That research took me through some stages where I began to pinpoint foods providing the essential amino acids. This led me to a site, selling amaranth. I then began studying about these Aztec foods. I then started making bread from amaranth, wheat, quinoa, eggs, milk and olive oil. But my research took me further. I came across the articles about the essential fatty acids. I then discovered the difference between the omega 3 and the omega 6 fatty acids. The olive and peanut oil fit a different class. I added flax seed and began eating fish everyday. I threw away the high blood pressure medicine, the cholesterol medicine and long ago the diabetic drugs. |
My research continued focusing on the need of insulin and the synthesis of the amino acids. This took me to another step. The study of the mitochondria cells. Combined with body building sites, I learned to use both aerobic and weight lifting. After 30 minutes on the weights, I turned to the aerobic. I focused on working out in the fat burning zone between 110 and 115. With low levels of insulin, the exercise triggers a glucose transport mechanism to use the glucose for energy, thus quickly lowering the glucose level. This exercise target zone aids in the use or synthesis of the essential amino acids. Every 20 minutes, I check my glucose and have a small amount of amaranth bread to keep the glucose stable around 100. After I studied the mitochondria cells more, I found that a dysfunction in these cells may lead to the problem of diabetes. So the goal is to increase those cells. The highly aerobic exercise seems to be doing just that. My legs are getting huge again like they were when I ran the eight miles in the sand. As more cells develop, the body has an easier time using the essential amino acids, oxidizing glucose for energy and keeps the glucose levels more stable. Also, the studies indicate foods high in leucine amino acids is helpful. Foods like amaranth cake with the eggs, milk, and other whole grains. This is also made with raisins. I also include lots of beans, green vegetables and fruit in the diet. This has led to a reversal of kidney troubles, a rotting foot healed and the list goes on. So everything has a strategy. The foods, the exercise, the type of exercise, the intensity of the exercise and chucking pills in favor of what the body naturally wants -- a hormone called insulin. My A1c went from 11.5 to 5.2. Think smart, study and take action and diabetes will not have any effect on your health when you use insulin according to medical professionals'; advice.
